Tears of Joy

Last week was a week of tears for me. My daughter had her first formal. Yes, this was her eighth grade dance... looks more like Prom to me. All I could think the entire time we were shopping for a dress, getting her mani-pedi done, and getting her hair done is OMGoodness, My baby is growing up!! I always hated hearing my mother say that, or even better "You will always be my baby, no matter how old you get" Now I completely get it, but I try not to say such things to my little girl. As soon as my husband drove off with her in the back seat the tears started flowing uncontrollably. So now she has experienced her first formal dance, and she said it was just OK. In August the tears will flow again when I drop her off for her first day of High School.

Added to all of this my other baby, the real baby of the family had to start growing up too. My son graduated from Kindergarten. I have gone through the whole Kindergarten graduation thing before, but some how knowing this is the last of my little ones it was a bit harder. The Kindergarten teachers did a wonderful job of putting together a cute little performance for the parents called E-I-E-I OOPs. My son was selected to play the part of Old MacDonald. All of the kids were excellent. They sang, danced and recited their lines. Afterward each class walked across the stage to receive their "diploma" individually. It was both heart breaking and exciting!

What a sweet post! Beautiful dress, beautiful girl. I'm getting a little choked up thinking about my daughters (2 and 5) growing up.

Heather your daughter is beautiful! My son didn't even get all that dressed up for his 8th grade dance last year, but lots of the girls did - (he's such a boy *rolls eyes*) And you son is so cute! Seems like ages ago when my son was that age! Thanks for sharing!

thank you all for such lovely compliments on my kids!

I know I commented already, but I guess blogger ate it!

They grow up so fast. It does seem like yesterday that I was holding each of them for the very first time. It is hard to believe that in just 4 years my daughter will be graduating High School and heading off to college somewhere...hopefully close to home. lol The more they grow the more I want another baby in the house.

Julie-- I didn't even go to my eighth grade dance. lol But Michaela said that there were several boys who showed up in jeans while their dates were dressed up. And others went all out and got a limo. Thankfully my daughter didn't ask for one, but she did request that my husband dress in a suit and take her and her friends in his car (Chrysler 300) so she looked like she was being chauffeured.
