Possessed by the Highlander by Terri Bisbin

ROR Winter Challenge #12.
273 pages
Rating: 4.5 stars

Back Cover: A DANGEROUS AND IRRESISTIBLE ALLIANCE...
Marian Robertson rescued a child and destroyed her reputation. Now, to keep her family safe, she must marry the stern, dark-eyed warrior negotiating a truce between their clans- and risk her heart.
Manipulated into marrying the exiled "Robertson Harlot," Duncan, the peacemaker for the MacLerie clan, finds his new wife's courage and spirit make it impossible to resist her. But will he put his honor at stake to free her from her past- and claim her love forever?

Review: Bisbin is a new author to me, so I was a little unsure as to what to expect from this book. It started off a little slow, but mustering through I found this story to be very enjoyable. Duncan longs for the family stability and happiness that he has witnessed within the marriages of his closest friends and clansman. Marian craves the love and company that she has been denied since that fateful night five years ago.
Duncan and Marian are hand-fasted for one year and a day, at the end of which they can part ways. Duncan wants more than anything for Marian to lean on him and reveal her secrets. Her inability to share these secrets prevents Duncan from truly trusting Marian.
I wanted to cry when reading this book. The unfairness in which Marian has been treated broke my heart. The cross that she bears shows her strength and courage. Duncan overcoming this cross shows his compassion and loyalty.
Possessed by the Highlander started out with a solid 3 rating but definitely earned a 4.5 by the end of the story. I recommend giving this one a try!
